Volunteer Managers play a crucial role in social service agencies, helping them to address a myriad of issues ranging from recruitment to volunteer training, alignment of skills with organisational needs.
Yet, this has been a very lonely journey for many and these managers are struggling finding peer support.
The Singapore National Council of Social Service (NCSS) asked Conjunct Consulting to put together a team to design a Residential Programme that will address these challenges.
Will enable experienced Volunteer Managers to reframe solutions in their daily work, apply techniques to improve their organization and discuss and develop best practices to bring back their agencies through a mix of small-group discussion session and interactive lectures.
THE STORY
NCSS explains that Volunteers play a significant role in nation building and bring multiple benefits to organisations and social capital. Service-based volunteerism enables the 220,000 volunteers in Singapore to come in direct contact with service users on a regular basis.
Based on the previous assessments of what was needed by the Volunteer manager to build a stronger ecosystem, NCSS asked Conjunct Consulting, to build the community of volunteer managers and equip them with better creativity and design thinking skills.
Conjunct Consulting is Southeast Asia’s first social change consultancy, an award-winning organisation specialised in bringing together the best consultants for the right needs.
The community and creativity capabilities building was right our alley and together with 3 other consultants from Conjunct we designed and delivered a 3 days 2 night residential program structured around:
1. A Design Thinking training to familiarise the Volunteer Manager with Human centered design framework and tools
2. Building trust amongst the Volunteer Managers belonging to a large diversity of sectors and maturity stages
3. Building the foundation of the Volunteer Managers community to engage the
community of practitioners in sharing best practices and emotional support
4. Identifying from there the technical topics that were the highest on the priority list to address
The program went very well and participants shared we created a lot of value for them. Strong with a successful start, NCSS asked Conjunct Consulting and us to lead an additional 3 workshops program to keep on building the third and fourth pillars listed above.
