Sustainability Bootcamp
THE OUTCOME
THE CHALLENGE
150 international students trained in the reality of both Sustainability and Design Thinking through 6 hands-on workshops and 4 speakers, leaders and innovators in the field.
20 projects designed with topics ranging from covid 19 & citizen health response to sustainable parenting to bulk purchasing.
66% of consumers are willing to pay more for sustainable brands. The business case on issues represented by the SDGs – both from a risk and opportunity perspective – is compelling. Only 14% of companies mentioned specific SDG targets
Thus the importance of future leaders to learn how to design more sustainable business models/products or services. During the sustainability bootcamps, Essec Business School students in groups of 5 and 6, have to take on the role of an innovation agency to answer the challenges of some Singapore based, local and international companies.
THE STORY
Sustainability to us is like the focal point that allows for the dispersion of light. This is why this Sustainability Bootcamp is a very important programme. We love learning from both our Students and Speakers!
We started this programme in 2019 thanks to InnovationisEverywhere. For this third year, thanks to the increasing number of students who registered to this sustainability bootcamp, we had the pleasure to welcome a third facilitator Liu Yan!
This year, we had stellar panelists who shared their experiences as sustainable leaders! Here are a couple of key takeaways:
💡 "Aha!" moments with our speakers: 💡
Jacqui Hocking: "Everything went exactly according to zero plan! " Sometimes it is good to have a vision (your where and why) and go with the flow (no how)!
Lorenzo Petrillo: "I spend my time in the back alleys of Singapore talking to people" - talk to your end users! It sounds simple yet it's not always easy to implement for students...and even sometimes for working professionals.
David Bensadon: "It is safe to be an entrepreneur now": As a student with a career ahead of you; now is the best moment to start a company! You do not have to support a family, and it will always been valorised on your CV if you show you do the extra leg work, not just learning theory!
Pamela Chng: Always look beneath the surface "In Singapore 12,7% of the workforce - about 511,00 people - is non productive and under the poverty threshold earning less than $508/ month. A lot of women and youth at risk. These are the people with work with and for. "
Jenny Pan: Hi Annelaure:) This is Jenny from Group 10 (Get Vaccinated #safetogether) Thanks for being our coach and giving us lots of inspiring advice through the whole journey!!! Really learnt a lot!!!
